Sweet & Savory Pizza

IMG_9500.jpg

I had my own personal pizza party. It was a fun time. I used Trader Joe’s garlic & herb dough which has never disappointed in the many years I’ve used it. A good friend of mine & the best party host I know named Brandon showed me the glorious ways of quick at home pizza many moons ago. Oil is a great alternative to use to work/kneed the dough before assembly the toppings for many reasons. 1. Less mess. 2. In the end result the crust turns out crispy & luxurious. 3. Did I mention less mess? No one has time to have flour everywhere when you’re trying to entertain.

I couldn’t decide what kind of pizza I wanted so I split the dough in half & made two different kinds. Why choose one when you can have it all, am I right?!

The first one I decided on was the savory. I wanted Greek salad on a pizza vibes so I used cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, prosciutto, oyster mushrooms, parmesan & mozzarella.

I was also craving something sweet with some heat so for the second one I went with spicy salami, apple, artichoke, honey, a little goat cheese & mozzarella.

I love using Trader Joe’s ready to bake pizza dough because it makes it easy to achieve fresh pizza while skipping on the messy & time consuming process of making the dough. I do suggest making it the same day or within 2 days of purchasing, just to make sure it’s fresh. I always leave mine out on the counter for about a hour before I want to make the pizza so the dough has time to warm & rise. Once ready rub a little oil on a hard surface & kneed the dough out. After working with it for a few minutes make the shape you want for the pizza. Add sauce, toppings, then put in the oven for 15-20 minutes & BAM. You’re ready to open your own personal pizzeria.

Ingredients

1 package of Trader Joe's pizza dough (I used garlic & herb, it also comes in plain & wheat)
1/2 cup tomato pizza sauce (or canned tomatoes, crushed)
1/2 cup parmesan, grated
1/2 cup mozzarella, torn

Savory
small handful of cherry tomatoes
2 tbs kalamata olives, sliced
3 oz prosciutto
2-3 oyster mushrooms, sliced

Sweet
3-4 slices of spicy salami
1/4 apple, sliced
1/4 cup marinated artichoke hearts
2 tbsp honey
1-2 oz goat cheese
red pepper flakes

Process

  1. Prep your pizza dough. Remove from the fridge & let it sit 20 minutes to an hour to let it warm & rise. Use the time it is sitting out to slice your pizza toppings & prep other ingredients. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

  2. Work the dough. Remove from bag & place on an oiled hard surface. You can also use flour, I just like using oil. On a baking sheet stretch the dough into a rectangular shape filling up the sheet. If you make two different pizzas like I did divide the dough into two & create a circular shapes instead.

  3. Apply your sauce, a base layer of cheese & then toppings.

  4. Place pizza(s) in the oven & bake for 12-20 minutes, depending on your desired crispiness.

  5. Slice & serve.

Enjoy!
