Let’s talk about supplements, shall we? During this crazy time we’ve all adjusted to hunkering down at home & avoiding large gatherings to stop the spread of Covid-19 for several months now. One thing I don’t think government officials are talking about & stressing enough is the importance of our immune system. Overall health actually. This is obviously a very serious virus which has done irrefutable damage to hundreds of thousands of lives. However, studies are showing the more overall healthy you are the better the chances are of you overcoming this illness. Vitamin D (which apparently the majority of Americans are insufficient in) has been shown to significantly play a factor so I recently added it to my rotation. I though this would be the perfect opportunity to share my collection & why I take them.

Vitamin C- Vitamin C is an essential vitamin your body can’t produce. It’s found in many fruits & vegetables but depending on your diet it can be easy to miss. It’s really good for boosting your immune system & helps improve the absorption of iron & collagen.

Vitamin D- Your body naturally produces vitamin D when directly exposed to sunlight but being that we’ve all been inside for a while it’s no surprise everyone is probably lacking right now. It’s known for helping the absorption of calcium but it also aids in helping the immune system function. A staggering amount of people who have been hospitalized with Covid-19 were significantly deficient in Vitamin D, so making sure you’re not would be greatly beneficial.

Blood Builder- Being that I have Sickle Cell Anemia I’m extremely insufficient in iron the majority of the time. Blood Builder is a iron super supplement which I’ve taken for years & can definitely feel a difference in my energy levels when I miss a few days. Highly recommend it for those low in iron!

Elderberry- Great for immune health & packed with antioxidants.

B12- Another essential vitamin that your body needs but cannot produce. I added this to my diet a long time ago when I was pescatarian because a lot of the B12 we find in foods comes from red meat. There are other sources like seafood, dairy & eggs but red meat is the main line. It supports the red blood cell formation & helps with anemia prevention, which I need help with having Sickle Cell Anemia.

Probiotics- Overall good for your health. Supports a healthy gut & immune system!

Plant Based Protein- A healthy non-dairy source of protein. Don’t get me wrong, I love dairy. But after reading several nutritional facts plant based protein powders have less calories while being higher in fiber & essential nutrients than dairy based protein powders. Also I personally think they taste better. My favorite brand is Vega One.

Apple Cider Vinegar- So many healthful properties it’s not even funny. It has antimicrobial & antioxidant effects. Evidence also suggests it it aids in weight loss, reducing cholesterol, lowering blood sugar levels & much much more. You only need 1-2 tsp a day. I add it to my tea in the morning.

Notable nods not pictured:

Chlorophyll- Chlorophyll is what gives plants & vegetables their green color. It works by absorbing sunlight & converting it into energy. In our bodies, it helps detoxify our blood, accelerate healing, boost the immune system, promote a healthy gut & improve acne. Best taken in liquid form. I miss having my chlorophyll yogurt & lemonade at Croft Alley in LA!

Moon Juice SuperHair- Because who doesn’t want luscious & healthy hair!
